The work of Oscar Dotter has been described as “punk rock meets the paintbrush,” as well as “jet fueled and hand crafted like a Howard Hughes aircraft.”
Oscar often draws inspiration from retro and vintage themes, contrasted with bright backdrops of bold coloring, often with a touch of edge, street and vulgarity. A self taught painter and sculptor, Oscar typically works on canvas with heavy acrylic and oil paints, often incorporating other elements such as charcoal, silicon, leather, coffee, tea, plastics, textiles, wood stains and varnishes. Having painted most of his life, he has also produced art and visual installations for various corporations, collectors, galleries and individuals in the u.s. and europe.
Oscar has lived in new york city since 1998 where he has held several art exhibitions, visual installations and solo shows. He has also traveled extensively throughout Scandinavia and Nordic lands where he has explored the contemporary art scene, including his favorite museum in Helsinki, Finland, The Kiasma.
Oscar’s latest adventure is the launch of his online shop, featuring original street wear clothing and merchandise from his original screen prints. Oscar works out of his Huh What Art Studio with his team in Chelsea, New York City.
